If you are a woman and you want a costume that needs no
introduction, then create a Supergirl costume. One look at your logo-emblazoned
top and red cape and people will immediately know who you are supposed to be.
An easy way to go about it is to buy a Supergirl costume
from costume stores, but you will miss out on the fun of creating a costume
from scratch. Also, going DIY on making your costume will save you more money
in the process.
If you’re going with a guy to the party, you can have him
dress up as Superman so your costumes will match perfectly.
Things you will need:
- Blue, long-sleeved leotard
or tight-fitting shirt
- Red fabric
- Short, red skirt
- Gold belt
- Red, high-heeled boots
- Long, blond wig
- Supergirl logo
- Needle/thread
Step 1: You will
need to attach the logo to your blue leotard or shirt. You can buy a ready-made
logo or patch from a costume store and just sew it by hand on the chest area of
the shirt. You can also create the logo yourself by drawing the pattern on white
cloth and coloring it with yellow and red markers. Make sure you get markers
that will work on cloth. Simply cut off the pattern and sew on the shirt.
Step 2: The blue
top should be matched with a short red skirt. Find one that flounces around
your hips; don’t get a pencil-cut skirt or a skirt that is too tight. Ideally,
Supergirl’s skirt should be short, but long enough to cover your upper thighs.
Step 3: Supergirl
wears a gold belt around her waist. You can easily find a gold belt in
department stores, boutiques, and costume shops. You can make one by cutting a
strip of cloth from gold fabric and use it to tie it around the waist.
Step 4: This sexy
superhero wears a red cape, just like her male counterpart. Unlike Superman’s
cape however, Supergirl’s cape is considerably shorter and reaches down to just
above her butt area. If you don’t have a cape yet or prefer not to buy one, you
can create one using red fabric. Just sew the edges of the cape for a cleaner,
more streamlined look.
Step 5: Supergirl’s
outfit should come with a pair of red, high-heeled, knee-high boots. It should
be in shiny red and should match the color of the cape. If you are finding a
hard time looking for such pair, you can just buy black ones and spray paint it
red. The tops of the boots should have a gold accent, which you can create with
gold spray paint.
Step 6: Supergirl
has long, flowing blond hair, and you should wear your hair that way. If you
have dark locks or short hair, you can rent a blond wig or you can dye your hair
blond with temporary hair color, which you can wash off in the shower. To
complete Supergirl’s All-American good looks, put on blue contact lenses if you
have a different eye color.
