If you want to dress up as a superhero on your Halloween
party but would rather have none of the usual fuss over accessories and stuff,
then consider going as one of The Incredibles. Their costumes are some of the
simplest in the superhero universe, which should make preparation easy for you.
Since these costumes have become very popular for the past
few years, you can easily buy one at costume stores, but for those who would
rather penny-pinch and do their own outfits, read on. This costume is for Bob
(Mr.Incredible).
Things you will need:
- Long-sleeved red unitard,
or long-sleeved red shirt and red tights
- Black fabric
- Orange fabric
- Black construction paper
- Orange construction paper
- Glue
- Black swimming trunks
- Black mask
- Long black gloves
- Tall black boots
- Blond hair dye and gel
Step 1: Find a
red unitard that has long sleeves. It should be easy enough to find in stores.
In case you can’t find any, you can use a tight-fitting, long-sleeved red shirt
and red tights or leggings as an alternative.
The top should have a black collar, which you can create by
cutting a piece of black fabric and glue/sew it around the neckline.
Step 2: Just like
in Superman and Batman costumes, you will need something to wear outside the
unitard or tights to cover the groin area adequately. For this outfit, look for
black swimming trunks or black cycling shorts. Remember that this will be worn
outside the tights, not underneath.
Step 3: You need
to put The Incredibles logo on your chest. Download a close-up picture of the
logo to make sure you will get this right. Trace an oblong on black
construction paper and cut it off. On orange construction paper, draw a one-inch
layer which you will use to border the outside of the black oblong.
From the same orange paper, draw the “ï”, cut it off then
paste it on the center of the black circle. Once the logo is finished, glue it
in front of the red top.
Step 4: For the
face, you need to wear a small mask that covers the area around the eyes. The
mask should be fitted close to your face. You can buy this type of mask from
costume or toy stores or you can just make one using felt paper. Draw the
outline of the mask on the paper, cut off then insert strings or rubber bands
on the sides, which you can slip on your ears to secure the mask.
Step 5: Mr.
Incredible has blond hair which is neatly slicked back. If you have a different
hair color, buy one of those temporary hair colors which you can easily wash
off in the shower. After putting on the hair color, put on hair gel and comb
your hair back neatly.
Step 6: The outfit requires a wide orange belt, which
you can create by cutting a wide strip of orange fabric which you can wrap
around your waist.
Step 7: Complete
the outfit with long black gloves and tall black boots.
