When one decides to dress as Madonna to
a costume party, she usually creates an outfit based on the Queen of Pop’s 80s
heydays when she was wearing cross earrings and necklaces, miniskirts, tights
and fingerless lace gloves. Another favorite Madonna costume is her Like A
Virgin outfit, which consists of a puffy wedding gown, lace leggings and of
course, the ever-present crucifix.
But there is another Madonna outfit as
memorable as her 80s outfits – the iconic bustier and Barbie doll ponytail of
her 90s Blond Ambition Tour. If you want a Madonna outfit that is sexy and
powerful, you should definitely go for this look.
Things you will need:
- Gold
bustier
- Black
business suit
- Black
boots
- Necklace
with crucifix pendant
- Red
lipstick, black eyeliner
Step 1: Wear the gold bustier and let
attached garters hang on top. If you can find a bustier with cone-shaped
breasts, just like the one Madonna wore during the concert, so much the better.
If you're having a hard time looking for a gold bustier, a white metallic one
will do.
Step 2: Wear your black business suit
over the corset. Your jacket should be easy to unbutton when you're ready to
show off the bustier underneath.
Step 3: After putting on the clothes,
you have to work on your hair and makeup. For this look, Madonna took
inspiration from the fabulous Marlene Dietrich, who made sexy, tailored suits
popular for the ladies and Marilyn Monroe, who immortalized the platinum blonde
hair, pale complexion and striking red lips.
You don't have to do much if you have
long, blonde hair; all you have to do is to gather it into a very high ponytail
on top of your head. If you have a different hair color, you can just rent a
platinum blonde wig with hair long enough for a high ponytail.
Step 4: You have to wear glamorous
makeup from the 40s to do this outfit justice. Put pale foundation on your face
to achieve that Marilyn complexion. Using black eyeliner, draw a mole on the upper
right side of your lip to copy Madonna's signature mole. Now complete the
makeup by putting on bright red lipstick.
Step 5: Madonna would not be Madonna
without her signature crucifix pendant necklace. Put this on and slip into a
pair of black boots to complete the costume.
Step 6: If you want to look like you're
about to sing a la Madonna, put on a headset mic.
Here's a great tip if you want to
maximize the effect of your Madonna costume. Ask two guy pals to dress up as
her backup dancers and arrive at the Halloween party with them. The outfits of
the backup dancers leave little to the imagination (black spandex hot shorts,
boots and nothing else) so you have to be sure that your guy pals would be
comfortable and daring enough to wear them. If they are actually dancers who
happen to be Madonna fans, they would surely jump at the chance.
