Make Your Own Lisa Simpson Costume

Dressing up as any of the Simpsons is certainly a cool idea for your costume party. If you want to dress up as a female Simpson but you’re not quite sure if you can pull off Marge's fabulous blue beehive, then go as Lisa instead. The precocious sister of Bart wears a simple dress which should be very easy to make. The challenge lies in getting the right skin and hair.

Things you will need:

  • Red tube dress or red fabric
  • Elastic
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Bead necklace
  • White spray paint
  • Yellow body paint
  • Red baby doll shoes
  • Yellow hair dye
  • Hair spray
  • Saxophone

Step 1: it's highly unlikely that you will find a red tube dress with a jagged hemline, so you may have to do some alterations. If you already have a red tube dress, all you have to do is cut the hemline so it will have a jagged look. Sew the edges to prevent loose threads from hanging down the dress.

You can also make your own dress by using red fabric and wrapping it around your body to get the right fit. Sew it up accordingly and style the hemlines using scissors. Make sure that the dress is not too tight; remember that Lisa is only in second grade.

Step 2: Lisa wears a simple string of white beads around her neck. This necklace should be easy to find. If you have an old bead necklace in a different color, you can just spray it with white paint.

Step 3: A pair of red baby doll shoes is needed to complete the outfit. You can find one at any shoe store, and you don't have to buy an expensive pair. A pair of red flats will suffice if you already have them.

Step 4: Just like her mom Marge, Lisa wears a very distinctive hairdo. Get Lisa's trademark spiked yellow hair by dyeing your hair with the same color. Find a temporary hair dye that washes off easily in the shower.

You can create the spikes by putting loads of mousse in your hair and shape them into a row of peaks that will stand up above your head. Add hairspray for more hold.

If your hair is too long for this style, you can buy a yellow wig instead and have a hairstylist arrange the hair for you.

Step 5: The yellow skin tone is a must to get the Simpson look right. Put yellow body paint on the exposed parts of your body. Let it dry completely before putting on the clothes and accessories.

Step 6: Just like Marge, Lisa has beautiful curled lashes which you can create by putting on a pair of false eyelashes. Put a generous amount of mascara and curl them.

Step 7: If you can, borrow a small saxophone which you can bring to the party. Bonus points if you can actually play it.  If you're going with a male friend, you can ask him to dress up as Bart.
