Dressing up as a rock star may seem like a boring idea for a
Halloween party getup, but not if you’re planning to dress up as Gene Simmons,
the lead singer of the legendary rock group KISS. If you are going to the party with a group of
friends, you can persuade them to dress up as the other members of the band. A
Gene Simmons costume has all the elements you need for an interesting Halloween
getup – crazy clothes, crazy hair and an even crazier makeup. If you don’t mind
wearing leather and lots of makeup, this is the perfect Halloween costume for
you.
Things you will need:
- Black t-shirt or vest
- Black bike pants
- Black pantyhose
- Black cape
- Black wig and hairspray
- Aluminum foil
- Acrylic rhinestones
- Silver studs
- Hot glue and scissors
- White face paint
- Black face paint
- Black eyeliner
- Black lipstick
- Red lollipop
- Black platform boots
- Guitar
Step 1: Get your
t-shirt and cut a big v-shaped pattern down the center using a scissor. If
you’re confident enough to show your chest, cut the shirt all the way to your
bellybutton. Cut off the sleeves of the shirt as well. Put acrylic rhinestones
along the v-pattern of the shirt and around the edge of the cutout sleeves using
hot glue. If you have a vest, you can simply glue the rhinestones along the edges.
Step 2: You
should wear bike pants with round or star-shaped cutouts. You can create this
by putting on the pants then drawing the round or star-shaped patterns on your
preferred areas. Take the pants off and cut off the patterns. The edges of the
cutouts will be glued on with aluminum foil.
Step 3: For the
gloves, you can create a cheap substitute by using a pair of black pantyhose.
Cut the legs off and a create a couple of small holes on the end where you can
insert one or two fingers. Jazz them up by putting rhinestones or metal studs
on them. To make sure that they will
stay in place, prepare a couple of strips of black leather which you will tie
around your elbow or forearm.
Step 4: Your
outrageous outfit should be matched with outrageous hair and makeup. Gene
Simmons’ hair is big, curly and wild, which you can get by renting a black wig
with a supremely teased hairdo. If you happen to have long, curly and unruly
hair, all you have to do is to gather the top half of it into a high ponytail. Go
crazy on the hairspray for that extra lift.
Step 5: Your
outfit will go to waste if you don’t have the signature KISS makeup. Cover your
entire face with white face paint. Darken your eyes using black eyeliner on the
top and bottom. Use the same eyeliner to create that bat-like outline around
the eyes. Outline your widow’s peak as well. You can download a picture of Gene
Simmons’ face so you can have a idea of how to draw the pattern.
Using black face paint, fill in the lines to make that
perfect black and white mask look. Make sure to fill in the pattern on your
widow’s peak as well.
Now outline your lips using the black eyeliner then put on
black lipstick. To get Gene Simmons’ red tongue, suck on a red lollipop before
you make your entrance at the party.
Step 6:
Accessorize. Wear black platform boots with metallic studs glued on them. Find
the meanest looking black electric guitar you can find and bring it with you to
the party.
