Make Your Own Jack Sparrow Costume

Pirates have never been sexier and quirkier than Captain Jack Sparrow, who charmed his way into our hearts in Pirates of the Caribbean . Now you can give the guy who plans to dress up as Captain Hook some competition by creating your own Jack Sparrow outfit to wear to the Halloween party. The costume is not hard to make, though you should pay attention to details.

Things you will need:

Step 1: Put on a white, long-sleeved shirt, preferably made of natural fibers. The shirt doesn’t need to be whiter than white; remember that you are dressing up as a pirate who looks dirty most of the time.

Step 2: Wear the gray/blue vest over the shirt. The vest should be long enough to reach the middle of your thighs. You can easily find this type of vests in thrift shops. Again, don't bother making the vest look clean, since you are going for a dirty look here.

Step 3: Get the old white scarves and tie them around your waist. Long ones will do very nicely.

Step 4: Long, brown boots are a must. If you don't have one yet, do not bother to buy a brand new pair since brown leather boots can be quite expensive. Shop around thrift shops for one. Old-looking ones will be perfect for your outfit. If you have black boots, you can just spray paint or dye them brown.

Step 5: Now you must take care of the hair. Your outfit will go to waste if you don't wear dreadlocks. Jack Sparrow MUST wear dreadlocks. If you don't have dreads, then you just have to fake them. Buy or rent a black wig with dreadlocks on them. This is definitely worth the investment if you want an authentic Jack Sparrow look.

Jack Sparrow has beads on his dreadlocks. If the wig you rented doesn't have beads on the dreadlocks, you can simply get hair beads from a crafts store and put them on. Download a picture of Jack Sparrow to get an idea of how much beads you're gonna need for the hair.

If you have the time, you may want to grow a goatee a few weeks before the party so you can twist it into a couple of braids, just like Jack Sparrow's.

Step 6: Like it or not, Jack Sparrow wears makeup. You will need black eyeliner to get his mysterious eyes. Apply the liner on the top and bottom of your eyelids. Smudge it a little from the outside corner. Now put black mascara on and remove any clumps. Jack Sparrow has tanned skin, so brush some bronzing powder on your face and arms.

Step 7: Accessorize. Put on costume rings of any kind on the fingers of both hands. Buy a pirate hat or an old costume cowboy hat and turn up the three sides. If you don't have a hat at all, you can just tie a red printed bandanna around your head.

And don't forget that we carry our own Jack Sparrow costume, as well as a kids Jack Sparrow costume.
