If you are
looking for a seductive costume that does not require you to show a lot of
skin, then dressing up as a geisha is the way to go. A geisha costume is
classic, elegant and does not require much money to put together. This getup
requires several accessories, full makeup and elaborate hair, which will
certainly make heads turn when you make your entrance at your Halloween party.
Things you
will need:
- Silk kimono, or an elegant bathrobe made of soft
material
- White shirt with collar
- Wooden clogs or wooden sandals
- White socks
- Sash
- White makeup or white face paint
- Black mascara
- Black eyeliner
- Bright red lipstick
- Parasols or hand fans
- Black wig
Step 1: Getting the perfect geisha robe is
very easy if you are willing to spend for a Japanese kimono, which you can buy
at specialty stores or on e-Bay. You can just buy a second-hand kimono since
you’re probably not going to use it for a long time anyway. You can find many
vintage kimonos for sale on the web.
If you don’t
want to buy a kimono, you can use an elegant bathrobe as an alternative, as
long as it is made of soft, silky-looking material. You can improve the look of
the robe by tying a beautiful wide sash or scarf around your waist. You will
need a white shirt with collar to wear under your kimono.
Step 2: Geishas usually wear wooden clogs,
so it will make your outfit look more authentic if you can get a pair. If you
don’t feel like walking around in small, measured steps during the party, you
can wear simple wooden sandals instead. Complete your footwear with a clean
pair of white socks.
Step 3: Full geisha makeup is absolutely
necessary if you want to make your outfit look fantastic. Use white makeup or
white face paint to cover your entire face. Make sure to include the area under
your chin. Do not put makeup on the skin on the lower paint of your neck.
Geishas tantalize men with the idea that there is bare skin apart from all that
white makeup.
Put generous
amounts of black mascara on your lashes. Line your brows with black eyeliner.
Your brows should be very thin and dark. Put on bright red lipstick for that final
touch.
Step 4: Geishas have elaborate hairstyles,
which you have to imitate. If you have long black hair, you can easily pull it
up and adorn with combs and flowers. If you have a different hair color or have
short hair, you need to rent a black wig. You can get one that is already
arranged geisha style.
Step 5: Complete your geisha outfit with
accessories. Geishas walk around daintily carrying a pretty parasol, so it
would really be nice if you can get your hands on one. If you can't, you can
just buy two hand fans made of Japanese paper, which you can use to cover your
face coyly, like what geishas do.
