Elektra Natchios, commonly known as Elektra, is considered
as one of the comic universe’s most lethal women warriors. For those who are
not into comic books, you may have seen her in the movie Daredevil, where she
was portrayed by Jennifer Garner. If you want to wear something very sexy and
daring to wear to your Halloween party, an Elektra costume is a great choice.
If you have the guts, you should definitely go for the
original, comic book version of the costume. Keep in mind, however, that the
outfit is very skimpy and requires a good physique to pull it off. If you are
up to the challenge, then get your materials ready and create this costume.
Things you will need:
- Red leotard in
single-shoulder style
- Lots of red cloth
- Old swim cap
- cardboard
- Red belt
- Red, high-heeled boots
- Sais
-
Long, black wig
Step 1: Elektra
wears a single-shoulder top, which you can copy by searching for a red leotard
with the same style. If you can't find a leotard, a red one-shoulder swimsuit
will work just fine.
If you prefer to wear a top with your exact measurements, then
you can create one using a basic swimsuit pattern which you can download from
the internet or get from sewing books. You only need basic sewing skills to do
this.
Step 2: The
outfit requires a vertical sash or “skirt” in the middle, which covers the
groin area. If you are sewing your top, you can already attach this skirt in
the middle. If not, you can attach it to a red satin belt with glue or strong
tape. Make sure that the skirt and the belt are made of the same fabric for a
streamlined look.
Step 3: Elektra's
outfit has lots of arm bands, as well as strips of cloth tied around her
thighs. You can easily copy this by
cutting strips of red fabric and tying it around your arms and thighs. To make
it look more “clean,” you can sew the edges of the strips first before wearing
them.
Step 4: In the
comic book, Elektra wears no shoes and walks around in skimpy red socks that
are almost knee-high. You can wear this if you want, but it is not advisable to
walk around outside your house wearing no protection for your feet. A great
alternative is to don a pair of red knee-high, high-heeled boots. Again, the
color of the boots should match the red of the rest of your outfit.
Step 5: Elektra
is known for carrying around a pair of sais, which serves as her primary
weapon. You should try hard to look for this, since the outfit would not be
complete with them. There are specialty costume shops that may sell some that
are not necessarily as lethal as the real thing.
Step 6: Long,
black hair is a must if you want to pull off an Elektra costume. If you have a
different hair color or if you have short hair, you must rent a wig that
resembles the assassin's flowing dark locks.
Step 7: Elektra
has red strips wrapped around her head. You can create this look by wrapping an
old swim cap with red cloth strips and gluing the edges so that it would stay
in place. If the cap feels too soft, you can put cardboard padding on the
inside for a more solid look.
And don't forget, Star Costumes has tons of great superhero
costumes if you want to go as someone else.
