How do I return an item?

Star Costumes' 10-day Return Policy

By ordering from Star Costumes, you agree to be bound by our 10-Day Return Policy. Please read this policy completely before placing your order with us.

Before you place your order

  • If your order is time sensitive, please make us aware of your deadline by including it in the comments field while placing your order.
  • Star Costumes is not responsible for late delivery. Once a package has been shipped, the customer receiving delivery takes responsibility for the package.
  • Star Costumes is not responsible for circumstances beyond our control, such as (but not limited to) natural disasters, snow storms and other weather events.
  • Packages may be delivered up to 8:00 PM local time.
  • Please Note: Styles, accessories, and colors of costumes are subject to change. We do not manufacture our costumes, and we have no control over the changes made by manufacturers from time to time. While we do our best to keep our site and product descriptions up to date and accurate as possible, some variation may occur, and we are not responsible for these changes.

I need to return a new, unworn, unaltered item

  • New, unworn, unaltered costumes may be returned to Star Costumes within 10 business days from the date of delivery.
  • Costumes must be returned in new, resellable condition with all pieces and parts, including the original packaging and header.
  • Star Costumes reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of any items for any reason at any time.
  • You are responsible for any costs associated with return shipping.
  • All returns are inspected by the returns department and refunds are issued according to Star Costumes’ discretion.
  • Orders that have been in your possession for more than 10 days are not eligible for returns or exchanges.
  • Some items cannot be returned. Please see below for a list of these items.

I need to return an incorrect or damaged item

  • If you have received a damaged or incorrect item, you must report the error within ONE BUSINESS DAY of receiving your package (i.e., if you receive your package on Friday, you must report the problem by the following Monday)
  • In the case that the return is a result of our error, Star Costumes will issue a full refund or ship a replacement, depending upon the situation.
  • All returns are inspected by the returns department and refunds are issued according to Star Costumes’ discretion.
  • Orders that have been in your possession for more than 10 days are NOT eligible for returns or exchanges.
  • To proceed with your return, please follow the instructions under "How to return an item."

How to return an item:

  • To initiate your return, email us at exchange@starcostumes.com with the following information:
    • Your name
    • The invoice number printed in the upper left-hand corner of the invoice included in your package
    • The item number and name of the item you wish to return
    • The reason for return
  • A Return Authorization Number (RA#) and instructions for how to proceed will be issued via email.
  • Return Authorizations will be issued via email only, to ensure and verify that you have been made aware of our policies and procedures.
  • All returns and exchanges must have a Return Authorization Number.
  • Please DO NOT refuse your package, or send your package back to Star Costumes without prior authorization. Sending a package back without a Return Authorization Number, or refusing your package, will result in a restocking fee of 20% or $10 processing fee, whichever is larger. This includes instances where a package is returned to us due to the customer providing an incorrect shipping address, or being unavailable to sign for delivery.
  • All returns must be received in new and resellable condition in their original packaging. Returns will be inspected and must meet the following conditions to qualify for a refund:
    • Free of odors, hair, perfumes, dirt, and otherwise clean
    • Unworn, unused, and unaltered
    • All pieces and parts must be included, including the cardboard header and the plastic bag
    • Costume accessories and Halloween props must be returned unopened, in their original packaging (see non-returnable items)
    • Any items that do not meet these conditions will be shipped back at the customer’s expense.*

Non-Returnable Items

The following items may not be returned at any time:

  • Hats
  • Wigs, beards and mustaches
  • Masks
  • Undergarments (including but not limited to hot pants, petticoats, pantyhose, nylons, and tights)
  • Teeth/fangs
  • Noses
  • Eyelashes
  • Make-up
  • Costume kits containing headwear and/or face accessories
  • Clearance items
  • Any costume or item marked “Sale Price”
  • Large quantities of the same item that have been special ordered to meet your needs

Your return authorization will list precisely which items have been authorized for return. Any non-returnable or unauthorized items that are returned to us will be sent back to you, and return shipping will be deducted from your refund.

Additional information about return policies

  • All returns will be thoroughly inspected.
  • Refunds will be issued at the discretion of the Star Costumes Returns Department.
  • Refunds are for costumes/accessories only.
  • Shipping is non-refundable.
  • Exchanges and returns that do not meet the above requirements will not be issued any credit or refund.
  • The crediting process usually takes 10 to 14 days.
  • During the peak season of September, October, and November, the credit processing time may take up to 3 weeks.
  • Seasonal items such as St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Christmas costumes must be authorized for return by 5 days prior to the holiday OR within 24 hours of receipt of your package.
  • Orders of 5 or more of the same item may be returned for store credit only or exchanged for a different size.
  • Returns on Express/Rush orders sent via Next Day Air or Second Day Air are subject to a 20% restocking fee or $10 processing fee, whichever is larger.

    * Any returns that do not meet the above criteria are not automatically shipped back to you. You will be notified of the decision and given the choice to provide a credit card for return shipping. If you choose not to have your items shipped back to you, items that are not claimed within 45 days will be discarded.

    Cancellation Policy

    • Orders are shipped out every business day at 4:00 PM Eastern time. If you wish to cancel or change your order, we must receive your cancellation request by 3:00 PM of the business day your order will be shipped out. (Orders placed after 4:00 PM Eastern the previous day, or by 3:00 PM on Monday for orders placed on the weekend.)
    • During our peak months (September and October), due to order volume, an order CANNOT be cancelled after it has been placed.
    You must follow the returns policy outlined above. Same fees, rules, and conditions apply.
